Jennylyn Mercado's Rosario will use a first in Philippine movie making

Picture

Ang balita ko, sabi sa Juicy ng TV5, Rosario is the first directorial job ni Albert Martinez, first movie project ng Studio 5 (movie outfit ng TV5) at isa pang panggulat sa lahat—lalo na kina Bossing at Panday...

They will use the Arri Alexa Camera na first-ever tapeless camera.

[According to TV5's PR department Rosario is co-produced by Cinemabuhay and Studio5.]

[The Arri Alexa features an advanced optical viewfinder, modularity, PL mount lenses, and a 35mm-width CMOS sensor shooting up to 3.5k resolution. New features also include recording to the digital intermediate codec ProRes 4444 and ProRes 422 in camera, simplifying the post production workflow.

The camera is designed for use in high budget feature films, television shows, and commercials, and is widely seen as Arri's answer to the growing acceptance of using the Red One, along with lower resolution cameras like the Sony CineAlta (35 mm, 1080p), Panavision Genesis (35 mm, 1080p), Thomson Viper FilmStream (2/3", 1080p) to shoot feature films. The body of the Arri Alexa however costs significantly more than the Red One at over $70,000 USD for a high end model versus the comparatively low $17,000 USD base price for the Red One. TV5 boss tells granny’s story in Rosario

Actor-director Albert Martinez toured Luzon province in search of the best backdrop for his period film “Rosario.”

The drama, which has crucial scenes set in the 1920s, will be shot in historic parts of Laguna, Batangas, Bataan and Bulacan, as well as in Metro Manila. “It took us a while to find the setting that will best reflect the pre-war period,” said Martinez, adding that the film chalked up two years of pre-production.

“Rosario,” which stars Jennylyn Mercado in the title role, is a co-production of CineMabuhay International Inc. and Studio 5. It is an official entry to the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival in December.

The film is based on a true story, Martinez explained. “Six years ago, one of Rosario Pereira’s grandsons told me the story. I got extremely interested in the colorful life she lived. So in 2006, I sat down with her remaining relatives. Shortly after that, we (with Elmer Gatchalian) began writing the script,” the director told Inquirer Entertainment last week.

The grandson is TV5 owner Manny V. Pangilinan.

Martinez said his team initially considered Bea Alonzo for the role, but the actress was too busy with TV work.

“It took us three-and-a-half years to find the right actress,” he continued. “We considered Jennylyn’s features, which are similar to those of the real Rosario, plus her ability to deliver a compelling performance, and finally, her schedule. We asked her to commit an entire month to this project.”

Crucial role

During auditions, Martinez recounted, the actors were asked to act out several scenes. “That was how we found the perfect cast,” he pointed out. Mercado is working with Yul Servo, Sid Lucero, Isabel Oli and real-life boyfriend Dennis Trillo, among others.

To prepare for the role, Mercado said she watched a couple of period films as reference. “I also studied the script really well.”

“I’m proud of this project,” said Trillo, who plays the scheming Alberto Gonzalez. “It’s an authentic Pinoy story.”

Martinez said of Trillo’s character: “His role is very crucial. When Rosario meets him, her life makes a complete turnaround.”

Trillo said he shares his director’s vision. “We haven’t started filming, but I see in him the enthusiasm and determination to make this right.”

Martinez has megged several drama anthologies on TV, among them “Pira-Pirasong Pangarap” and “Larawan.”

Major concern

But “Rosario” presents many “firsts” for him, Martinez said. It is the first film to show Manila in the 1920s. It is also the first Filipino film to use the high-definition ARRI Alexa camera
. “Our DOP (director of photography) Carlo Mendoza flew to Los Angeles to learn how to use it,” said Martinez.

“Rosario” is also the only drama feature in the upcoming MMFF. The other entries are horror and comedy films.

Martinez said promoting the film is a major concern. He pointed out that “Rosario” is a co-production of Studio 5, the film production arm of TV5, and features contract talents of rival network GMA 7. “We will think out-of-the-box. We will use nontraditional methods to drumbeat this,” he stressed. “We’re here to make good movies.”

Also in the cast are Susan Roces, Dolphy, Aga Muhlach, Charlene Gonzales, Carmen Soo, Liza Lorena, Phillip Salvador and Eula Valdez.

Jennylyn Mercado sings her songs from the heart! The singer/actress shoots her music video for her cover song “Maybe this time” from her 2nd single album “Love is”. The concept of the video is purely focused on Jennylyn in a quite formal European theme. She wears two gowns that fits perfectly for the mood of the video. She was a natural while shooting the scenes, only having one take for each scene and you would see her in full emotion while singing the song in front of the camera. Direk Raffy has done a a good job with the lighting and the angles. Jennylyn’s face registered beautifully in TV monitor. This video is surely to be something that would reveal more of Jennylyn’s beauty and her music.

Viva Interactive was also able to interview Jennylyn during this music video shoot. Jennylyn is looking forward to have more songs to share for future albums. But for this album we are looking forward to pure ballad love songs revived and sang the Jennylyn way!

Positive vibes for Jennylyn Mercado!
by: Justin John Mata | STIR Contributor

Jennilyn Mercado preferred not to say anything about the real score between her and reumored boyfriend Dennis Trillo. In an interview at the contract signing of her latest endorsement, F/X (Fashion Exchange), a multi-level direct selling company. It was held at talent manager’s Becky Aguila’s office/residence in Commonwealth Avenue, she spelled out, “Dennis and I are just good friends.”

F/X (Fashion Exchange) decided to get Jennylyn as its first endorser as sales bookings increased when she appeared in its catalogue.

It looks like the Jennylyn’s career turnaround was catalyzed by her romantic relationship with Dennis.

One thing Jennylyn and Dennis have in common according to Jennylyn is they are both music lovers who love to sing and play the guitar.

She also confirmed that she and Christine Reyes are in good terms despite reports claims that they have disparity because of Dennis who was Christine’s ex. She pointed out, “Wala kaming problem ni Cristine. Nagkakaroon lang siguro dahil sa mga nagsusulat tungkol doon.”

On other hand, when asked about her reaction to Carlene Aguilar’s recent comment that she is in favor and happy for her to be with her ex-lover Dennis, she smiled and quipped, “Talaga...”

According to Jennylyn, she is not ready to enter again into a serious relationship, “Bata pa ako at yang mga bagay na yan ay hindi dapat minamadali muna. I learned my lesson already. Basta sa ngayon I’m happy with my family and with my baby.”

She recently made peace with ex-lover Patrick Garcia by agreeing for him to meet their love child Alex Jazz, lovingly called as AJ. In the process, she closed the gap between her and Patrick’s family.

She was uneasy when she met Patrick after a long time, “Medyo kinabahan, pero masaya ako for the baby. Hindi pa napag-usapan kung kailan niya puwedeng dalawin si AJ, hindi pa umabot doon ang usapan.”

What’s Dennis reaction to the reconciliation? Jennylyn described, “Happy siya for me, enjoy lang kami noon dahil pareho kami ng hilig and yes, isa siya sa nag-convince sa akin na ipakita na si AJ kay Patrick.”

When asked if she is willing to share in the right time the real score between her and Dennis, she said, “Hindi na kailangan. Siguro mga personal na bagay dapat sa amin na lang yun at hindi na kailangan malaman ng ibang tao.”

Jennylyn has started the shoot of Rosario, the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival official entry about the life of Manny V. Pangilinan’s grandmother as directed by Albert Martinez. She plays the lead role and gets to act with Dolphy. She shared with STIR, “Nakaka-pressure siya dahil period movie ito; iba ang costume, ayos ng buhok, make-up, at pati acting.”

Besides Dolphy, she appears with Dennis, Isabel Oli, Ricky Dabao, Yul Servo, and Empress Shuck in a cameo role. She’s in a new series, the remake of Saan Nagtatago ang Pag-ibig where she reprises the role originally played by Vilma Santos.

Besides her Viva Records CD entitled Love Is is doing brisk sales, Jennylyn has a new whitening soap endorsement.

Positive vibes has clearly turned things around for Jennylyn.

Managed by its president, Asuncion Yu, you can to be a F/X (Fashion Exchange) member and earn on your own by calling 521-2989 or 995-7478. They now have branches all over the country.

Anak ni Jennylyn, kumportable kay Patrick

abu tilamsik
